Future Expectations

My future major will be researched and explored at Canterbury School of Architecture. The Canterbury School of Architecture (CSA) which was founded in 1952 is a leading architecture school in the United Kingdom and is a department of the University for the Creative Arts in England. This year, the school has been listed within the top 5 architecture schools in the United Kingdom.

For my major of interior design at school of architecture. I saw some information on the school’s website, so I am looking forward to the future course. Students can participate in professional seminars with professional technicians. By improving the challenging journey of research, concepts, technology and communication skills, as well as excellent self-management, students can better enter the global market.

In addition, on the equipment side, the interior design facility includes a dedicated postgraduate open studio space for group coaching and personal work. The 3D workshop is used for wood, metal, plastic and ceramic work machines. Laser cutting machines, 3D printers and virtual reality labs on campus. The fully equipped computer studio is equipped with a Mac and PC and is programmed with the latest design and animation software.

Finally, students can go deeper into higher level interior design careers. There are also potential areas of expertise including interactive design, VR, immersive activities, retail or professional production. Students can combine cultural heritage and sustainable development issues, contemporary technology and traditional craftsmanship, digital and “real” space.

Through these informations, I am looking forward to the future. Regardless of the architecture school or my major, I think this will be a wonderful and exciting process.

Depression

“Depression is understood as a problem of internalization of people. It is manifested in the depressed mood or excessive sadness, loss of interest in activities, insomnia, difficulty in thinking, and inattention.” (Merrell, 2008)

The frequency of occurrence of symptom among overseas students is increasing year by year. Many overseas students are ‘pretending to live’, but they are forced to go to the abyss by the pressure of life and study. They escape from real life, stay away from social interactions, live in their own small space, fear that they will be laughed at and disliked by others, and they cannot face their true self.

In a 2005 study by Carroll J and Ryan J, “Providing Teaching for overseas Students to Improve Learning” shows that many students are frustrated during their studies abroad. (Carrol J, Ryan J,2005)

The reality of studying abroad is that a young adult is brought out of their comfort zone; they are far from their childhood friends, and in many cases, they try to study a new way of life and Perceive the world. These extra stresses are considered a stressful period in the lives of young people. It’s easy to go to a dead end in this period, but it’s easy to fall when you can’t get out. So, this adjustment takes time.

Our project is about overseas students with depression. We want overseas students to realize that depression is like a mental cold, and it is not incurable. We will use the medium of art to guide overseas students to treat depression correctly and put forward some reasonable suggestions to lead the students suffering from depression out of the painful abyss.

I also hope that through our program, the international student population with depression can get more attention from the society. Students who already have depression will be able to successfully come out and be alert to those who do not have depression.

GROUP PROJECT

We have an Art and Activism project this time that needs group work to complete. What is group work? “Group work is a form of voluntary association of members benefiting from cooperative learning, that enhances the total output of the activity than when done individually.”

In fact, it is more difficult for the group to work than the individual. Skills in group work are often about people, and building rapport within a group and working together effectively. We need language communication, listening and asking questions. We work hard to ensure that the team communicates well and helps ensure that there are no misunderstandings or unresolved difficulties between team members. Teams need to make common decisions and be able to provide clear and effective feedback to others. It is critical to keep team processes running and planning effectively.

Our project is about mental health-depression. We need to reasonably allocate the part that everyone is investigating, and to get a deeper understanding of the topic. We can learn about the pain of people with depression from websites, articles, videos. It can also be analyzed and evaluated from many cases.

If there is an opportunity, I would like to work with the World Health Organization to raise awareness of depression and increase publicity about depression. There is also the improvement of efficiency and clinical cure rate, minimizing the morbidity rate and suicide rate, preventing recurrence, and ultimately achieving the purpose of improving the quality of life and restoring social function.

BRIGHTON

Last Friday, we went to explore a seaside city, Brighton, which is the UK’s most popular seaside destination for overseas visitors. Brighton is also known as Britain’s “most fashionable city”, and “the happiest place to live in the UK.”

The iconic building of the southern coastal city of England is the Royal Pavilion, which was built in 1815 to facilitate the rendezvous of Prince Regent and his mistress Fitzherbert. The Royal Pavilion, Brighton was hand-picked as a summer resort by the royal family in the 19th century. The royal family and the high society men and women rushed to the Sunshine Coast for a holiday. The Royal Palace is the most exotic building in the UK. The interior Chinese style prevails throughout the decor, lotus lanterns, giant dragon crystal chandeliers, ladies murals, bamboo and rattan escalators, and large-faced tapestries. In the palace, you will have a deep understanding of the British royal atmosphere.

The trendy city of Brighton has shown so many beautiful graffiti that street art lovers will not be disappointed. It’s like hanging out in an open-air gallery. Like Bristol, it is considered one of the street art capitals, and you will find large murals by famous artists such as Banksy, Snug, Aroe and Odisy in Brighton. There are also many unknown painters who show their works on these graffiti streets. They want to convey their ideas about the world through their works. They can use art works to break through secular prejudice.

SKETCHBOOK

‘A sketchbook is a book or pad with blank pages for sketching and is frequently used by designers for drawing or painting as a part of their creative process. ‘ Sketchbooks come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, with varied covers, and differing numbers of pages. Leonardo Da Vinci made hundreds of pages of sketchbooks in his life, filled with his curiosity of pictures and text.

As a design student, I also have my own sketchbook, I want to use it to record my life and describe the bits and pieces of my life. For example my eyes, I saw my eyes in the mirror, I want to record it. I think that the eyes are the windows of the soul. We can see the different emotions of each person from the eyes. The eyes can dominate the emotional communication.

In addition, I often see some small squirrels in the places where I live, which reminds me of the cartoon characters I have seen before, and I recorded them again. They are lively , seeing them will make people forget their troubles.

VASE

OXFORD

On Friday 19 July 2019, I have a very excellent experience in Oxford. I went to Oxford for visit two museum, Ashmolean Museum and Pitt River Museum. There are many historical collections in these two museum.

ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM

In the Ashmolean Museum, I saw a impressive artwork that is vase. It have beautiful appearance—colorful, chic and featured. This work was called “Owl” vase , which was done by an English designer, Christopher Dresser. He was a designer and design theorist, now widely known as one of the first and most important, independent designers.   He wrote a series of articles that appeared in the Art Journal in 1857, “Botany as Adapted to the Arts and Art Manufactures”. He caused us to pay attention to the plant aesthetics of the vase. He used the vase as an artifact, blending the opposites – east and west, minerals and vegetables, practical and artistic, wild and civilized.

CHRISTOPHER DRESSER

This work is one of his series of plant art. When I first saw it, it was attracted by his appearance. It looks like a daffodil and it looks very interesting. I think he can silently spread botany from his own work, and he can blend these two relationships very well. He once said that “standardized plant images are the nature depicted in the purest form. Therefore, they are not natural imitations, but the concrete image of the perfect plant spirit.” He is able to show “reasonable” or “adaptation” by plants. This is an idea that he wants to express through his work. Art comes from nature, but it cannot replicate nature. For him, plant morphology must be standardized to be useful to designers. From his work, we can open a new style of design, we can explore different things from natural form and decorative art.

‘OWL’ VASE

JOURNEY LIMITLESS

On Wednesday 17 July 2019, I heard a speech for Simon and Alex’s Journey Limitless. I think they did a very challenging thing. However, this is not something that everyone can do it. They have been to 40 countries about 45,000km.

One Year.

Circumnavigating the globe.

Just the Motorbikes, the Cameras…

and Each Other.

I appreciate their lifestyle, they fell in love with the world through their journey and found it to be part of their lives. They can go and pursue the life they are longing for, dare to challenge, instead of hiding in the corner and carrying their dreams.

If I am a traveler, I will take all the photos I travel around the world with a camera, collect the photos together, and add a note to open a photo exhibition. I can be a tour guide in the photo exhibition. Visitors come to visit the world’s cultural heritage and places of interest to explain to them. If I am a traveler, I will be a teacher of history classes in the photo exhibition to explain the historical stories to the tourists. At the same time, in tourism, it is possible to open a volunteer team, advocate the protection of the environment, and use photo exhibitions to protect the importance of the national environment.

People always go with the flow, but I am looking forward to change. I think we must have our own ideals, our own dreams, and we cannot be at the mercy of fate. We must use our own efforts to turn “as if” into reality.

I have to go to the Maldives, the paradise on earth; then I am going to Italy, the country I yearn for; I am going to India to see a girl with a traditional Indian style; I am going to the United States to see the most prosperous place in the economy; I am going to South Korea to satisfy my dreams of flowers; I am going to France, the place full of romantic feelings; I will go to Egypt to explore the mysteries of the pyramids.

VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM REFLECTIVE WRITING

JEWELLERY

I mentioned before that I saw photography in V&A, then let’s talk about the jewellery displayed in this museum today.

Jewellery is ornaments that people wear, for example rings, bracelets, and necklaces. It is often made of a valuable metal such as gold, and sometimes decorated with precious stones. However, The V&A Museum has one of the finest and most comprehensive jewellery collections in the world. From ancient times to the present, it tells the story of European jewelry. There are more than 3,000 pieces of jewelry in this exhibition hall. This is simply the place that dream of all girls.

In here, I saw a lot of jewelry about the British royal family. Every jewel is very exquisite and luxurious in here. Especially, the coronet of Queen Victoria, it makes me unforgettable. It is excellent in both workmanship and materials. I read it in the introduction, it says ‘Coronet: brilliant-cut and single-cut diamonds open-set in silver lined with gold. Step-cut sapphires open-set in gold.’

I know that this crown was designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1840, and that was their wedding year. It was given to Queen Victoria by Albert the day before the wedding. As a symbol of her royal status. So I especially want to see what the real crown looks like. Fortunately, I had the chance to see it at the v&a Museum on Friday. When I saw it, I seemed to share the joy of their love with Queen Victoria.

I feel very precious about this experience at the v&a Museum. I felt that I have learned a lot during this trip. I also recommend that you can visit this museum more, where you will get unexpected gains.

Experience of Victoria And Albert Museum

On Friday 5 July 2019, I have a very meaningful experience. That is that our teacher led me and my classmates to visit the Victoria & Albert Museum and Serpentine Gallery . In there, i was impressed by three exhibitions: photography, jewelry and painting. After the end, i learned a lot from it. For example: some historical background, design inspiration, production process, operation mode, etc. I think this knowledge can be used for my major in the future.

In the museum, i saw some artistic photos at the V&A museum. For me, the most significant experience was photography. At the time, i felt very shocked, because these works are very touching. Especially, I think that photographer caught the most exciting moments and showed the characters. This allowed the characters to slowly penetrate the hearts of the people and immerse the visitors in the scene. In addition, there was also a retro camera display case, i felt that every camera here has a story. Its may have left a lot of memories. For example, some historic moments or some memorable good times. Its are the carriers of time.

As a student of design, this is the first exhibition I visited after coming to the UK, so I cherish this journey.I am writing my trip here, I hope I can share my happiness with each other.
