Depression

“Depression is understood as a problem of internalization of people. It is manifested in the depressed mood or excessive sadness, loss of interest in activities, insomnia, difficulty in thinking, and inattention.” (Merrell, 2008)

The frequency of occurrence of symptom among overseas students is increasing year by year. Many overseas students are ‘pretending to live’, but they are forced to go to the abyss by the pressure of life and study. They escape from real life, stay away from social interactions, live in their own small space, fear that they will be laughed at and disliked by others, and they cannot face their true self.

In a 2005 study by Carroll J and Ryan J, “Providing Teaching for overseas Students to Improve Learning” shows that many students are frustrated during their studies abroad. (Carrol J, Ryan J,2005)

The reality of studying abroad is that a young adult is brought out of their comfort zone; they are far from their childhood friends, and in many cases, they try to study a new way of life and Perceive the world. These extra stresses are considered a stressful period in the lives of young people. It’s easy to go to a dead end in this period, but it’s easy to fall when you can’t get out. So, this adjustment takes time.

Our project is about overseas students with depression. We want overseas students to realize that depression is like a mental cold, and it is not incurable. We will use the medium of art to guide overseas students to treat depression correctly and put forward some reasonable suggestions to lead the students suffering from depression out of the painful abyss.

I also hope that through our program, the international student population with depression can get more attention from the society. Students who already have depression will be able to successfully come out and be alert to those who do not have depression.
